Dr Liu was appointed Professor, Department of Physics, at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2014, and in 2023, he was made Choh-Ming Li Professor of Physics” in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements. He received his PhD from the Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, in 2000, following the completion of his BSc from the Department of Physics at Nanjing University in 1995.

His research interests include: physics for implementing quantum computation in solid-state systems; spin dynamics in semiconductors; electron spin decoherence in nuclear spin baths; quantum optics and nonlinear optical spectroscopy of mesoscopic systems, and magnetic nanometrology and magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
