Tamara Li graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor's degree in molecular genetics. She will be starting her PhD in September 2025 and is currently working in Professor Jason Wong's lab. One of their research focuses is on cancer genomics, with some colleagues investigating retrotransposons in the human genome.
Although Tamara is not yet very familiar with retrotransposons, she understands that they make up a significant portion of the human genome and have been shown to affect gene regulation and potentially play a role in cancer progression. Participating in this symposium would be a valuable opportunity for her to learn more about retrotransposons from experts around the world.
