Nguyen Nhi
McGill University, Kyoto University
Nguyen is a second-year PhD student in the McGill–Kyoto Joint Program in Genomic Medicine, focusing on the intersection of computational genomics and epigenetics. With a background in synthetic biology and proteomics, she transitioned to bioinformatics, where she develops graph-based pipelines that integrate ChIP-seq and RNA-seq to map regulatory activity at young, polymorphic transposable elements. Her research utilizes long-read assemblies from Canadian cohorts to construct population-tailored pangenomes, uncover TE-derived transcripts, and identify RNA-based biomarkers. Nguyen has presented her work at several conferences, including the McGill Human Genetics Research Day, ASHBi Retreat, and MBSJ Annual Meeting. Her ultimate goal is to lead an interdisciplinary group that translates transposable element biology into precision medicine applications.
