Jian Yan (嚴健)
City University of Hong Kong
Jian is an assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at City University of Hong Kong. He earned his BSc in Biological Sciences from Tsinghua University in 2005 and completed his PhD in Medical Science at Karolinska Institutet in 2014, where he studied the molecular mechanisms of transcriptional regulation in colorectal cancer cells under Professor Jussi Taipale. Following his PhD, Jian pursued postdoctoral training with Professor Bing Ren at UC San Diego from 2015 to 2018, focusing on 3D genome organization and gene regulation. He joined City University as a tenure-track assistant professor in 2018 and received the "Outstanding Research Award for Junior Faculty" in 2021. Jian's research aims to unveil the molecular mechanisms by which transcriptional aberrations impact cellular function and human health, utilizing high-throughput tools. His current interests include developing genomic tools to dissect lncRNA functions in disease and studying protein-nucleic acid interactions through high-throughput pipelines.
