Catherine Owiredu
UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA)
I read Biomedical Science (UCL) and the MSc International Health (University of Leeds). The latter included attending a summit at the WHO, Geneva. This deepened my interest in global health. After training to be a mathematics teacher, I decided that I wanted to combine my love for numbers with my scientific education. It was during a summer post as a Research Assistant at the Cancer Epidemiology Unit at the University of Oxford that I developed an interest in epidemiology. I subsequently went on to work for the health intelligence agency, IMS Health (now IQVIA) who create analytic reports for pharmaceutical companies conducting phase IV trials. I obtained the role of Trainee Epidemiologist at Public Health England (now the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA)). I worked here at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic which led to my interest in vaccines and vaccine hesitancy. I would like to do a PhD.
