Anthony Lui (呂琪)
Hong Kong Metropolitan University
My research primarily focuses on cancer biology, specifically the molecular signalling pathways and functions of the Rab-like protein 1A (RBEL1A) oncoprotein. Additionally, I am interested in the drug discovery of single molecules derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine. Our team was the first to identify RBEL1A as an oncogenic GTPase and to understand how it inhibits the tumour suppressor p53 protein. We have also discovered a single molecule, MT2, from the traditional Chinese medicinal herb Marsdenia tenacissima (MT), which has the potential to enhance the sensitivity of cancer cells to Taxol treatment. Over the past ten years, I have taught associate degree and degree students at PolyU, covering a range of subjects including basic laboratory techniques and safety, human biology, human physiology, molecular biology, among others. Since 2023, I have been serving as an Assistant Professor at Hong Kong Metropolitan University, where I teach courses in microbiology, pharmacology, and human physiology.
