Chak-sing Lau is a prominent figure in rheumatology in Hong Kong and globally. As the Dean of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong, he's held several leadership roles within HKU and Queen Mary Hospital. He has contributed to specialist training and health policy as part of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine and various strategic committees.
Lau’s research interests include autoimmune rheumatic diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and spondylitis.

Since 1992, he has worked to expand the field of rheumatology in Hong Kong by establishing a local community of specialists and a global research network. He founded the Hong Kong Arthritis & Rheumatism Foundation and co-founded several congresses and collaborations, including the Asia Pacific Lupus Collaboration.

Lau has developed regional treatment recommendations and led the Asia-Pacific League of Rheumatology Associations (APLAR). His division received the APLAR Centre of Excellence award in 2016. Internationally, he's an honorary member of European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) and was elected to the Academia Europaea in 2023. He serves on editorial boards for rheumatology journals and reviews research grants.
