Sarah Day
Beamline Scientist, Diamond Light Source
Sarah Day is a beamline scientist on Beamline I11. She joined Diamond as a postdoctoral research associate in 2014 after completing her PhD in astrophysics at Keele University. Her main role is to support the operations of the LDE Facility, provide user support, with a focus on aiding users with data analysis, and conduct in-house research.
The main focus of her PhD was to study the formation and evolution of cosmic dust grains using high-resolution powder diffraction. In-situ studies of cosmic dust analogues were performed on Beamline I11 under non-ambient temperature and pressure conditions relevant to those found in a range of astrophysical environments, in order to understand the effect that thermal annealing and solid-gas interactions have on their structure.
In addition to this, since starting at Diamond, she has been involved in the study of novel Li-ion battery materials, performing in-situ time-resolved experiments as well as long-duration studies of these materials.
