I first learned of lower back rehabilitation from Stuart McGill of Waterloo University. From this experience, I realised that there exist knowledge gaps between the diverse forms of lower back rehabilitation practice and what is scientifically proven and recorded in literature. This gap inspired me to further my study at the CUHK sports science department, as incorrect movement pattern during exercise increases the risk of developing chronic low back pain (CLBP). Over my study period, I focused on quantifiable biomechanical variable development during standardised functional test that can be used to assess a person's CLBP disability, and improvement following training intervention. These variables can be used to complement validated patient reported outcome measures as objective outcomes in assessing CLBP treatment effectiveness.
