Feng Gu received his PhD in Genetics from Peking Union Medical College in 2006. He subsequently completed five years of postdoctoral training at the University of Connecticut Health Center and the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, USA. In 2022, he joined the School of Medicine at Hunan Normal University, where he currently serves as a 'Xiaoxiang Scholar' Distinguished Professor and doctoral supervisor. He has also been selected for the Hunan Province High-level Talent Program (Outstanding Category). His primary research focuses on the fundamentals of gene editing and its clinical translation.
As corresponding (last) author, Feng Gu has published articles in major international journals, including Nature Communications, PLOS Biology, Nucleic Acids Research (2 articles), Molecular Therapy (4 articles), Journal of Biological Chemistry (3 articles), and Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science. His recent research, published in PLOS Biology, was featured by leading international science media such as ScienceDaily and EurekAlert. Two of his studies published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry were each selected as landmark gene editing methodology papers for the journal in 2019 and 2021.
