Information theory plays a unique role in acting as a bridge between otherwise apparently distant areas of human endeavour. This summer course aims to bring together experts in the field and next generation of researchers in the East Asia region and to introduce young researchers to information theory from experts, as well as to form and strengthen peer networks of researchers in the region.
What you'll study
Information theory has provided the intellectual foundation on which multiple advances in the technologies of digital and analog communication, wireless and wired computer networks, data storage, digital security and privacy, information processing (to name just a few
fields) have been built. The expressive and analytical power of information theory has also given deeper insights into many seemingly disparate fields of research such as control theory, black-hole physics,
quantum computing, etc.
This five-day summer course aims to bring together experts in the field and the next generation of researchers in the East Asia region, and to introduce the young researchers to cutting-edge aspects of information theory from experts, as well as to form and strengthen peer networks of researchers in the region.
The course is limited to a maximum of 45 participants - 30 local participants and 15 non-local participants. It will be conducted in hybrid mode where some participants and speakers will attend physically at the Chinese University of Hong Kong while others may join via online platforms.
