Hui Ling Yen
Associate Professor, Division of Public Health Laboratory Sciences, University of Hong Kong

Hui Ling Yen earned her Ph.D. in Epidemiological Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and completed her postdoctoral training at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. Her research focuses on influenza transmission mechanisms among various reservoirs, virus-host interactions affecting pathogenicity, and molecular determinants of antiviral resistance. A key area of her lab's work is studying transmission modes for influenza and other respiratory viruses in both laboratory and field settings, particularly at animal-human interfaces. Her team employs genetic analyses, molecular biology, and phenotypic measurements to explore critical molecular determinants and their impact on protein functionality and viral fitness. She is a full member of the American Society of Virology, serves on the ISIRV Antiviral Group committee, and is part of the editorial boards for Antiviral Research and Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses.
