Dr Alex Chin
Research Assistant Professor, The School of Public Health, University of Hong Kong

Dr Alex Chin received his Ph.D. degree from School of Public Health of the University of Hong Kong and is currently a research assistant professor of the School. His research interests range from basic virology and diagnostics of emerging infectious diseases to the development of control measures for respiratory diseases. During the COVID-19 outbreak, he was dedicated in understanding the basic virology of SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of COVID-19, with in vitro platforms and animal model. He also developed a number of novel materials and surface coatings with antiviral property. From these, he published a number of publications in high-impact journals. His current research focuses on developing novel vaccines that provide broad protection against influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2. He is also developing novel multiplex diagnostic assays against respiratory viruses.
