Zhichao Zhou is associate professor and team leader at Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden. He obtained his PhD in 2013 at the Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He had his postdoc trainings at the West Virginia University in US (2014-2015) and Karolinska Institutet in Sweden (2015-2018). Zhichao Zhou’s research interests include Cardiovascular (Patho)physiology and Vascular Biology. Using a translational approach with a variety of models of cells, animals and patients, the research goals are to elucidate the novel mechanisms underlying cardiovascular injury and to find potential therapeutic targets. The particular focus of his research team is on the role of erythrocyte as disease mediator of cardiovascular complications in type 2 diabetes.
