Cambridge science summer school
The Foundation has supported for the first time the participation of four Hong Kong students to attend the Cambridge Science Summer School organized by Professor Gerard Evan FRS, Head of Department of Biochemistry at Cambridge. The students are Mr Tinyi Chu, CUHK, Mr Yorky Wong, HKU, Miss Theodosia Woo, CUHK and Mr Jack Yuen, HKU.
During the eight week intensive programme, held in July and August 2012, participating students attended courses taught by senior faculty members with supplementary talks and workshops presented by invited international speakers. Students had hands-on bench practice and worked under supervision on topical research questions. Individual tutorial were also arranged to provide guidance leading to the production of a research report at the end of eight weeks.
The experience of the Cambridge Science Summer School was absolutely spectacular
I have learnt and experienced so many new things in this intensive programme. The most important is that I have discovered more about my personal weakness and reflected upon myself
Participants valued in particular the opportunity to work alongside experience research scientists in the laboratory and, to meet some very distinguished scientists including Nobel laureates who were invited to give lectures and seminars by the organisers of the summer school.
