Lunxu Liu
Professor of Surgery, Sichuan University

Lunxu Liu is the Executive Vice President of West China Hospital and Executive Vice Dean of West China School of Medicine, Sichuan University. He also serves as Professor of Surgery and Director of the Institute of Thoracic Oncology. With nearly 30 years of experience in thoracic surgery and lung cancer research, Liu is a pioneer in minimally invasive lung surgery in China. He introduced video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for lung cancer and developed key techniques such as Single-Direction Thoracoscopic Lung Surgery and non-grasping en-bloc mediastinal lymph node dissection (MLND), significantly advancing the field. His team also innovated the suction-compressing angiorrhaphy technique (SCAT) for managing intraoperative bleeding and performed the world’s first complete VATS bronchovascular double-sleeve lobectomy. Prof. Liu received the First Prize of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award in 2013. In research, he focuses on drug resistance mechanisms, cancer progression, molecular residual disease, and multi-omics approaches combined with AI. He has published over 140 research papers in leading journals such as JAMA Surgery and Clinical Cancer Research.
