Dmitry Gabrilovich is currently Chief Scientist of Cancer Immunology at AstraZeneca in Gaithersburg, MD, USA. His research focuses on how tumours suppress the immune system and the development of new immunotherapies. He was among the first to describe the defective function of dendritic cells in cancer and to identify myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs). His lab investigates the role of immature myeloid cells in cancer and their links to signalling pathways such as NF-κB, Jak-STAT, Notch, and Wnt. His work has shown that tumour-derived peroxynitrite contributes to resistance against immunotherapy. He has also studied how monocytic and polymorphonuclear MDSCs impact cancer treatment, and his team has proposed strategies to target these suppressive cells. Prior to AstraZeneca, he held positions at The Wistar Institute and Moffitt Cancer Center, and was named a Research Professor by the American Cancer Society in 2019.
