Yang Li (李阳)
University of Hong Kong
Yang is a PhD student in Professor Pentao Liu's lab at the HKU. Before joining the university, he completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Biochemistry at University of Oxford. His research focuses on the developmental hematopoiesis process and the emergence of immune cells. Yang uses human pluripotent stem cell lines to conduct transgene-free in vitro cultures that monitor the endothelial-to-hematopoietic transition (EHT) process. This approach facilitates detailed analysis of hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) formation mechanisms. These HSCs can further differentiate towards macrophage, NK, and T cell lineages, highlighting a novel and versatile resource for advancing immunotherapeutic strategies. His work aims to deepen the understanding of how blood cells are formed during embryonic development, as well as the genetic and epigenetic factors that influence this process.
