Medical Robots with Soft/Miniature Designs: From Bench to Bedside

Robotic technology helps make possible surgical procedures and other medical treatments that were previously unachievable. The medical application of innovative technology like soft robotics and miniature robots will significantly enhance the performance of minimally invasive interventions, allowing more accessible surgical treatments. With the advancement of robotic technologies across scales, novel robotic-assisted surgical procedures and therapeutic interventions are transforming medical diagnosis and treatment solutions. These technologies improve how clearly surgeons can see, how easily they can access the surgical area, and how precisely they can perform operations, leading to less invasive procedures. This aids medical professionals and patients globally.
This ASI will be the first of its kind in Hong Kong. It will serve as a forum for training, brainstorming, and discussion of research strategies and advancements from an engineering perspective and challenges and clinical needs from a medical perspective. It will also provide an opportunity for clinicians, engineers, and researchers from local, national, and overseas universities to exchange new ideas and forge new biomedical innovations.
