During my doctoral studies at the University of Hong Kong, I conducted research on stem cells and development, with a primary focus on the p53 functions in human trophoblast lineage commitment. My dissertation, titled ‘TP53 is required for trophoblast lineage development from human expanded potential stem cells’, explored the requirement of p53 in human trophoblast development. I am interested in chromatin state and epigenetics in development and human cancers. The distinct chromatin remodeling may be a reason for tumor heterogeneity and cellular plasticity, which lead to various gene expression profiles in the same tumor, causing difficulties in the development of effective cancer therapies. Studying how epigenetic programs contribute to cancer initiation and progression would offer new insights into the development of novel therapeutic strategies.
