Rio Sugimura

Rio Sugimura received his M.D. from Osaka University, Japan, in 2008, and his Ph.D. in Stem Cells and Regeneration from the Stowers Institute for Medical Research, USA, in 2012. He has been trained at world-leading institutes, including Harvard Medical School and Kyoto University. He is an Assistant Professor at the School of Biomedical Sciences, The University of Hong Kong, and a principal investigator at the Centre for Translational Stem Cell Biology, Hong Kong. The mission of The Blood Engineering Lab (BEL) is to define fundamental principles of immune cell functions and apply these insights to cancer, autoimmune diseases, and aging. Our research aims Immuno ChatGPT, a platform to command immune functional modules to given cells. We define the immune system based on functional modules. Our strength in engineering both cells and gene circuits confers optimal immune functional modules to combat diseases.
