Torben Krogh Mikkelsen
Professor Emeritus of Remote Sensing of Wind, Department of Wind and Energy Systems, Technical University of Denmark
Torben Mikkelsen’s field of work includes remote sensing for wind energy, atmospheric sciences, atmospheric dispersion, and atmospheric flow and turbulence.

After earning his PhD from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 1983, Mikkelsen held a postdoctoral position as an associate research professor at the Meteorology and Physics Department of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, from 1985 to 1986. He became a full professor at DTU in 2011.

As leader and PI of the DTU Wind Energy Department's remote sensing-based research infrastructures (www.windscanner.dk and www.windscanner.eu), Mikkelsen is still involved with wind lidar-based wind velocity, 3D turbulence scanners, and other remote sensing developments for wind energy research and industry.

In collaboration with the company ZX Lidars and IPU, an independent consulting engineering firm, he has developed a 2D scan head for wind lidar-based rotor plane inflow monitoring in real-time (spinner LiDAR).
