Masoud Moeini is a PhD student at McGill University working under the supervision of Professor Djordje Romanic. He has a background in atmospheric sciences and civil engineering. In his PhD, he uses lidar measurements of atmospheric boundary layer winds over downtown Montreal to quantify mean and turbulence statistics of the flow. He applies signal processing methods to remove noise from the measurements. He looks for methods to improve the turbulence results that are effected by non-converging statistics. He also looks for ways to retrieve true velocity fluctuations that are dampened by temporal averaging performed by the instrument. Finally, he aims to develop a theory of urban boundary layer winds in mid-latitude regions.
