Janet Barlow
University of Reading
I am now the Professor of Environmental Physics at Department of Meteorology in University of Reading. My research is mostly concerned with urban meteorology and is motivated by the need to understand fundamental atmospheric processes with application to weather forecasting, urban sustainability, indoor and outdoor air quality, building ventilation, and environmental wind engineering. My work is largely experimental in nature, using both wind-tunnel based physical modelling, and urban observational campaigns. Another significant area is energy meteorology: wind power, boundary layer flow effects around wind farms, integration of renewable energy into the energy system. I have also worked on insect flight in the atmospheric boundary layer.
