Prof Upmanu Lall
Alan & Carol Silberstein Professor of Engineering, Columbia University
Prof Lall is the Director of the Columbia Water Center that seeks to develop sustainable water management and infrastructure design paradigms for the 21st century recognizing the linkages between urban functioning, food, water, energy and climate. Prof Lall has pioneered the development of stochastic modeling and optimization techniques for studying hydrologic systems and modeling multi‐scale climate variability and change. He is the Editor of the journal Water Security, and has been engaged in high-level public and scientific discussions including the World Economic Forum. He is Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (2014), and recipient of the Henry Darcy Medal by the European Geophysical Union, and the ASCE Arid Lands Hydraulic Award (2011).
