Prof Guangqian Wang
Professor, Tsinghua University
Member, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2009). Prof Wang is an expert in hydraulic engineering and has won numerous national science awards in China including the Ning Chien Memorial Prize (1992), and three times State Scientific and Technological Progress Awards (1999, 2006, 2008). He is an international expert in sediment transport – in particular the modelling of solid-liquid two phase flows at high sediment concentrations. He has made significant contributions to hydraulic prediction methods and models with applications to the Three Gorges Project, operation of Sanmenxia Reservoir, and water resources regulation in the Yellow River Basin. He is the mastermind behind the Digital Yellow River Model and the innovative “Sky River” water transfer project in Qinghai.
