Yasuko Iwakiri

Yasuko Iwakiri specialises in liver fibrosis/cirrhosis and portal hypertension, with a focus on vascular systems, including the role of lymphatics and liver endothelial cells. Her research also explores the interactions between liver endothelial cells and immune cells, such as macrophages, particularly in alcohol-associated liver disease. As of October 1, 2024, she serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Hepatology, after previously holding similar roles twice in Hepatology and once in Hepatology Communications. Iwakiri has also served on the editorial boards of Hepatology, Journal of Hepatology, and JHEP Reports. Her expertise is frequently sought on grant review committees, including for the NIH (NIDDK and NIAAA), AMED (Japan), and other international agencies. Over her 18-year independent career, Iwakiri has mentored nearly 60 trainees in her lab. Within AASLD, she is on the Nomination and Basic Science Committees and holds leadership positions in Special Interest Groups.
