Wenye Xu
Chinese University of Hong Kong
Wenye Xu is currently a postdoctoral fellow whose major research interest lies in delineating the developmental trajectory of gut microbiota and its role in disease development during early life. She aims to develop non-invasive microbiome-based disease prediction models and explore next-generation probiotics for disease prevention and treatment. Her ongoing research indicates that a compromised developmental trajectory of the infant gut microbiome increases the risk of early-onset eczema. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Wenye and her team studied the impact of control measures and practices on early life gut microbiota, noting a decrease in microbiota diversity and alterations in gut microbiota composition, as well as an increase in microbial antibiotic-resistant genes.
