Alex Jen is the Lee Shau Kee Chair Professor of Materials Science, Founding Director of the Hong Kong Institute for Clean Energy, and Chair Professor of Chemistry and Materials Science at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), and previously served as CityU Provost (2016–2020). He earned his BS from National Tsing Hua University and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, and was formerly the Boeing‑Johnson Chair Professor and MSE Chair at the University of Washington, where he also served as Chief Scientist for the Clean Energy Institute. A leading scholar in organic/hybrid functional materials and devices for photonics, energy, sensors, and nanomedicine, he has more than 1,150 publications, more than 100,000 citations (h‑index 161), 73 patents, and has been recognised as a Highly Cited Researcher (2014–2024). He is an Academician of the European Academy of Sciences and the Washington State Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of AAAS, MRS, ACS, PMSE, OSA, and SPIE, and was named by THE among the Top 10 researchers in perovskite solar cells (2018).
