Jiong Zhao (趙炯)
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Jiong Zhao is currently an associate professor in the Department of Applied Physics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He obtained his PhD from Tsinghua University under the supervision of Professor Jing Zhu. He is the co-founder of the Atomic Electron Microscopy Centre at PolyU, which was established in 2023. His main research area is low-dimensional physics, specifically two-dimensional materials and in-situ electron microscopy. He has applied and developed in-situ mechanical, electrical, heating, and beam environmental testing to 1D and 2D materials, and experimentally measured their atomic structures, chemistry, and physical properties to reveal dynamical responses at the atomic scale. His research has been published in renowned journals, including Science, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Materials, PNAS, PRL, JACS, Nature communications, and Science Advances, with Jiong as the first author.
