Sven Klumpe
Postdoctoral Fellow, Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry
Sven Klumpe is a member of the CryoEM Technology research group at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Martinsried, Germany, under the leadership of Jürgen M. Plitzko. In the course of his work, he oversaw several focused ion beam instruments, including an Arctis PFIB. His research focuses on developing new techniques for processing thick biological samples, with a particular emphasis on cryo-lift-out methods, and he is maintaining and developing the cross-platform open-source software package SerialFIB. Using these approaches, he focuses on cryo-electron tomography studies of retrovirus-related mobile genetic elements in model organisms such as the nematode, C. elegans, and the fruit fly, D. melanogaster.
