Shangyu Dang obtained his PhD from Tsinghua University, Beijing, in 2014, before completing postdoctoral training at University of California, San Francisco (2014–2018). In 2019, he established a independent research career in Hong Kong, where he is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Life Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). His laboratory investigates the structural and mechanistic properties of biological macromolecules - particularly ion channels and transporters - utilising single-particle cryo-EM, cryo-ET, biophysics, and biochemistry.
