Pengfei Wang is a Research Associate in Professor Byungho Kang’s laboratory, focusing on the unusual Golgi structures within the root cap. In border cells (BCs) and border-like cells (BLCs), Golgi stacks display hypertrophied margins, reflecting heightened biosynthetic activity to produce mucilage polysaccharides. As organelle morphology mirrors function, this distinct structure likely signifies novel cellular mechanisms. His research aims to elucidate the functional mechanisms driving these Golgi configurations in BCs and BLCs. Additionally, he investigate the roles of a root cap-specific transcription factor and auxin homeostasis in modulating Golgi dynamics during root cap maturation.
