Mac Pierce
University of Hong Kong
I am in the final year of my PhD programme, and my research is focused on phylogenetic relationships of virus vectors and intermediate hosts at the species and population level. I am also working on developing methods to enhance discovery of novel pathogens through NGS. Going forward, I would like to focus my research on the relationships among pathogens, vectors, and hosts, and to investigate how these relationships have developed over evolutionary time and ecological space. For example, I would like to research the emergence of ONNV, the only virus known to be transmitted by Anopheline mosquitoes, and the dynamics of how this virus diverged from Chikungunya in East Africa.
