Katherine Worsley-Tonks
Institut Pasteur
I am a disease ecologist and epidemiologist currently conducting Postdoctoral research at the Institut Pasteur focused on rabies epidemiology in different African countries. I completed my undergraduate degree in Zoology at Cardiff University in 2013. I received my MSc in Ecology at the University of Georgia in 2015 where I investigated gastrointestinal parasite infections in wild African ungulates. I then went on to the University of Minnesota where I received my Ph.D. in Veterinary Epidemiology in 2020 during which time I explored the dissemination of antimicrobial resistant bacteria in wildlife populations. Prior to the Institut Pasteur, I received a Postdoctoral fellowship with the Smithsonian Institution to work on developing approaches to strengthen zoonotic disease surveillance in rural Kenya. Broadly, my research interests lie in understanding how anthropogenic and environmental factors influence the transmission and maintenance of zoonotic diseases across different spatial scales to inform disease surveillance and control measures.
