Joon Klaps
Rega Institute, KU Leuven
I'm a passionate researcher with a drive to understand viral evolution. My journey began with two successive Master's degrees in Engineering Technology and Bioinformatics, both awarded Magna cum Laude with one student prize for graduating top of my class. Since then, I've delved into viral evolution for the past 2.5 years as a PhD student. I excel in database development, phylogeography, and NGS processing, contributing to projects that involve developing a phylogenetic pipeline and a metagenomic pipeline. I'm interested in the impact of intrahost evolution on Lassa virus virulence and disease progression. Leveraging my strong analytical skills and bioinformatics expertise, I strive to make a real-world impact on preventing viral spread. My eagerness to learn and contribute within communities makes me an ideal candidate for this course, where I can both gain valuable knowledge and share my experiences. For this, I look forward to interact with fellow participants and teachers.
