Ivan Wong is a second-year Postgraduate PhD student in the Department of Health Technology and Informatics, specialising in microbiology, public health surveillance, outbreak analysis, Burkholderia pseudomallei, antimicrobial resistance, and bioinformatics. He co-authored the publication "Probable airborne transmission of Burkholderia pseudomallei causing an urban outbreak of melioidosis during typhoon season in Hong Kong, China" (Emerging Microbes & Infections, 2022 JIF = 13.2), utilising phylogenetic analysis to support the hypothesis of airborne transmission leading to a local outbreak. Ivan also coordinates a local food antimicrobial resistance surveillance project, identifying suspicious sequence types contributing to multi-drug resistance. With experience in constructing dashboards to visualise phylogenetic, phylodynamic, and epidemiological data during the COVID-19 outbreak, Ivan aims to deepen his understanding and explore more possibilities in analysing public health-related data through this course, ultimately providing actionable information to policymakers and benefiting the public.
