Nuno Faria is a professor in Virus Genomic Epidemiology at the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis, Imperial College London. He obtained his PhD from KU Leuven and previously held positions at the University of Oxford, including a Wellcome Trust–Royal Society Sir Henry Dale Fellowship.
His research focuses on the evolution and spread of rapidly emerging viruses, integrating genomics, epidemiology, and modelling, with applications to dengue, Zika, chikungunya, yellow fever, rabies, HIV and SARS‑CoV‑2.
He leads and co‑leads several international research initiatives, including the Wellcome‑funded DeZi network and the Brazil–UK CADDE centre, and has contributed to real‑time genomic analyses during major outbreaks.
Faria serves on WHO technical advisory groups on arboviruses and virus evolution, and his work has been widely published, including in Science and Nature, with support from major international funders including the Wellcome Trust, the Medical Research Council, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Temasek Foundation.
