Jiyeong Kim is a graduate student in the Wildlife Health Laboratory at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Konkuk University, Republic of Korea. She earned her DVM degree in February 2025 and specialises in veterinary infectious diseases and microbiology. Her research focuses on the molecular epidemiology, evolution, and cross-species transmission risk of RNA viruses, particularly avian influenza at wildlife–livestock–human interfaces. She applies whole-genome sequencing, phylogenetic analysis, reassortment characterisation, and comparative genomics to investigate viral diversity, host adaptation markers, and transmission pathways along migratory flyways. Her recent work includes genomic surveillance of avian influenza viruses in wild birds and experimental studies on viral pathogenicity and mammalian adaptation. She is especially interested in phylodynamic and metagenomics-based approaches for environmental RNA virus surveillance. Her work also aims to contribute to integrated surveillance strategies linking wildlife ecology, viral genomics, and public health preparedness.
