Dr Yu is involved in developing and supervising
China’s national infectious disease surveillance systems, and supervises
rapid response teams to provide technical support for the detection and
response of emerging infections. He also leads the development of
China’s national strategy for the control and prevention of infectious
diseases. In addition, he acts as Principal Investigator for several
research efforts in emerging infectious diseases in China, and is
Conjunctive Director coordinating with the WHO, US CDC, NIH, Oxford
University, Wellcome Trust and other technical agencies.
His research interests include the epidemiology, transmission
dynamics, and surveillance of infectious diseases such as SARS, avian
and swine influenza, Hand Food Mouth Disease, Rabies, Brucellosis, and
Streptococcus suis, as well as seasonal influenza, pneumococcal and Hib
diseases. His research on vaccines for these diseases, including their
efficacy, safety, and cost effectiveness, aims to help develop
immunisation services and evidence-based vaccination recommendations and
policy.
