Professor Dalton works with human pluripotent stem cells, including human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells. His team is interested in mechanisms by which stem cells make cell fate decisions and how they differentiate into neural, cardiovascular, liver and pancreatic cells. In addition to studying the basic biology of stem cells they have recently developed the first vascular progenitor cell from pluripotent stem cells that function following transplantation into damaged tissue. They are currently using hPSC-derived vascular progenitor cells for tissue engineering and tissue repair.
