Roy Cheung from Western Sydney University (WSU) is a leading researcher in sports biomechanics and an academic leader currently serving as Professor of Physiotherapy and Director of the Human Movement Laboratory. He has also led the Physiotherapy Program at WSU, overseeing major curriculum and research initiatives that promote innovation and global collaboration across the health sciences.

Backed by over HK$50 million in competitive research funding, Cheung’s transformative research program integrates wearable sensors and artificial intelligence to decode complex human movement. By bringing biomechanical analysis out of the lab and into real-world environments, his work provides unprecedented insights into how athletes move, perform, and recover.

A prolific and highly cited researcher, Cheung has published extensively in leading international journals across biomechanics, rehabilitation, and sports science. He also contributes significantly to the academic community through his editorial leadership, serving as Section Editor for Sport Sciences for Health, Associate Editor for Frontiers in Sports and Active Living, and Editorial Board Member for Human Movement Science and Sports Biomechanics.
