I am Sipeng Zhang, a PhD candidate in neurobiology at the School of Life Sciences, Peking University. Building on the groundbreaking discovery of REM-like sleep in octopuses, my research focuses on constructing computational models to decode the dynamic patterns of tens of thousands of chromatophores during cephalopod sleep. I have developed Python/OpenCV algorithms to track the electrophysiological activity of octopus skin, aiming to explore whether wakeful visual experiences are replayed during REM-like sleep—a potential "dreaming" mechanism. To further investigate whether this phenomenon reflects "dream" replay, I want to seek advanced computational tools and collaborative opportunities with fellow researchers. I sincerely hope to join this course to deepen my understanding of computational neuroscience and contribute to this fascinating field of study.
