Professor Toby Walsh
Laureate Fellow and Scientia Professor of Artificial Intelligence

Toby Walsh is a Laureate Fellow and Scientia Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of New South Wales, where he is based in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. He also serves as a research group leader at Data61 and holds multiple international and adjunct academic appointments. His research spans artificial intelligence, constraint programming, automated reasoning, and satisfiability, with strong engagement in both theory and practice.

Walsh has played a major leadership role in the AI research community. He has served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research and AI Communications, and sits on the editorial boards of several leading journals, including Journal of the ACM. He is a Fellow of multiple national and international academies and professional societies in recognition of his research contributions and service.

He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the NSW Premier’s Prize for Excellence in Engineering and ICT and the IJCAI Donald E. Walker Distinguished Service Award, and has chaired major international conferences in AI and automated reasoning.
