Startup 2.0: early stage support for Croucher scholars

23 February 2017

The second quarterly selection round for Croucher Startup 2.0 grants is now open.

In April 2016 the Croucher Foundation approved a new funding initiative to back the ideas of any Croucher award recipient wishing to use their scientific and technological expertise to establish a business with a linkage with Hong Kong.

The Foundation already offers a start-up allowance to scholars returning to tenure-track positions at universities in Hong Kong, but the new Startup 2.0 initiative helps provide early stage support for scholars who, rather than joining a university, may be interested in starting a company.

Recipients of any Croucher award are eligible to apply. The Foundation hopes to encourage scholars to use their scientific knowledge for the development of a startup company, providing an early kick start in developing their business.

Successful applicants will receive a grant of up to HK$1 million from the Croucher Foundation. This is an equity-free grant: recipients are not obliged to repay the grant or to give an equity stake in their company to the Foundation.
