Croucher Startup 2.0: a new funding initiative

28 November 2016

In April 2016 the Croucher Foundation approved a new funding initiative to back the ideas of any Croucher award recipient wishing to use their scientific and technological expertise to establish a business with a linkage with Hong Kong.

The Foundation already offers a start-up allowance to scholars returning to tenure-track positions at universities in Hong Kong, but the new Startup 2.0 initiative helps provide early career support for scholars who, rather than joining a university, may be interested in starting a company.

The Croucher Startup 2.0 aims to support scholars in the earliest stages of building their companies. Recipients of any Croucher award are eligible to apply.

The Foundation hopes to encourage scholars to use their scientific knowledge for the development of a startup company, providing an early kick start in developing their business.

Successful applicants will receive a grant of up to HK$1 million from the Croucher Foundation. This is an equity-free grant: recipients are not obliged to repay the grant or to give an equity stake in their company to the Foundation.
