Wai-kin Wong leads a team on operational activities and technique developments on the nowcasting of rainstorms, tropical cyclones, and hazardous weather, as well as the Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre (RSMC) for nowcasting. The team is also involved in the application of numerical weather prediction (NWP) models and the development of model post-processing methods. Wong’s team also uses machine learning to forecast high-impact, location-specific, and urban-scale weather processes from very short-range to medium-range for the public and supports various user communities, such as power utilities.
