Norikazu Mizuochi is a professor at the Institute for Chemical Research, Kyoto University, where he leads the Mizuochi Laboratory in the Division of Materials Chemistry. He received his PhD in Science from Tohoku University. His research focuses on quantum sensing and quantum information science using diamond and related materials. He approaches these topics from both quantum physics and materials science perspectives, including advanced control of quantum states, development of high‑sensitivity quantum sensing measurement techniques, and high‑quality diamond synthesis and characterisation. He also serves as an affiliate member of the Quantum Field Measurement Systems (QUP) at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK). Mizuochi has published extensively in leading journals, including Nature, Nature Photonics, Nature Communications, Physical Review Letters, and Nano Letters. He has received several awards, including the Osaka University President’s Encouragement Award (2015) and the Nagase Award (2012) (the latter for pioneering work on single‑photon sources in diamond).
