Yoav Green is an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, where he leads the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory. The laboratory develops theoretical and computational frameworks to understand ion transport through charged nanochannels and ion channels used in many technologies, ranging from water desalination and energy harvesting to biosensing and electrophysiology. The laboratory draws on Sir Lawrence Bragg’s famous observation: “The fun in science lies not in discovering facts, but in discovering new ways of thinking about them.” Rather than focusing exclusively on discovering new physical phenomena, it seeks new conceptual frameworks that unify existing observations, reveal previously overlooked connections and provide simpler, more general explanations for complex transport phenomena occurring at the nanoscale. By re-examining familiar problems from new perspectives, it aims not only to deepen fundamental understanding but also to uncover principles that enable discoveries across disciplinary boundaries, which can lead to revolutionary technological breakthroughs.
