Weilai Yu is an assistant professor of chemistry at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He received his BSc in chemistry from Wuhan University, earned his PhD from California Institute of Technology under the mentorship of Nathan S. Lewis and Harry B. Gray, and completed postdoctoral training at Stanford University with Zhenan Bao and Yi Cui. His research focuses on electrochemistry, surface and interface science, energy storage, electrocatalysis and autonomous experimentation. Through the integration of advanced characterisation, high-throughput experimentation and artificial intelligence, his group develops next-generation materials and interfaces for sustainable energy conversion, battery technologies and molecular manufacturing.
